NRA Women Features CEO Laura DiBenedetto
We are thrilled and honored to have recently been featured in a front page interview with NRA Women. It was an incredible opportunity for us to sit down with them and discuss the journey as co-founders and CEO of Sovereign Ammo, Laura DiBenedetto. The interview shed light on our passion for the Second Amendment and our mission to empower Patriots to defend their rights and destigmatize responsible gun ownership. Read it here.
About the Interview
During the interview, Laura shared her diverse background as an award-winning business leader, TEDx speaker, and bestselling author. She spoke about her inspiration to start an ammo company after retiring from her previous venture and experiencing life-changing epiphanies. With Sovereign Ammo, she and her husband set out to make a difference in the face of unjust discrimination and become a force for change.
The conversation delved into various aspects of our company and beliefs. Laura explained the significance of the name “Sovereign Ammo,” emphasizing that sovereignty represents the core of our God-given power and the soul of our great nation. She passionately discussed the importance of sovereignty, freedom, and responsibility, debunking misconceptions about these values.
When asked about her journey to become a passionate defender of the Second Amendment, Laura candidly shared her personal transformation and how she found her “tribe” within the firearm industry and 2A supporters. She highlighted the resilience, passion for family, commitment to communities, and unwavering faith in God that she discovered among like-minded individuals.
The interview also touched upon the reception Sovereign Ammo has received within the 2A community. Laura expressed her pleasant surprise at the supportive and respectful nature of the community, countering the negative stereotypes often portrayed in the media. She acknowledged the existence of some instances of sexism but emphasized the overwhelming support and camaraderie she has experienced.
The Unexpected
Another interesting aspect discussed was the preference to not be pigeonholed into a women-only segment of the industry. Laura shared her advocacy for fairness and equality for women in all aspects of life. While recognizing the value of women’s categories in shooting sports as an inviting entry point, she urged caution in using excessive gender-specific labels, which may unintentionally undermine women’s credibility. Laura’s vision is to create an equal environment where shooting remains a national pastime, welcoming individuals from all walks of life.
The interview also explored Sovereign Ammo’s focus on the 9mm caliber and the plans for expanding the brand. Laura explained that building a strong reputation and customer base is their current priority, aiming to revolutionize the ammo experience and create a brand that customers eagerly seek out. While expanding into other calibers is on the horizon, the decision will be based on customer demand and the company’s ability to meet it effectively.
The conversation took a turn towards the challenges faced by Sovereign Ammo due to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) policies. Laura openly shared the obstacles encountered, including difficulties with merchant software, credit card processing, and traditional lending options. She highlighted the blatant censorship and content removal on social media platforms, hindering marketing efforts. Despite these challenges, Laura encouraged businesses facing similar situations to get involved in local and state politics, make their voices heard, and seek support from others who share their concerns.
Putting a Bow on It
Throughout the interview, Laura shared her personal philosophies and provided advice for navigating tough times both personally and professionally. She emphasized the importance of self-love, gratitude, staying present, guarding energy, and intentionality. These principles have shaped her life and guided her through challenging moments.
And of course, the interview wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Laura’s favorite firearm, her Glock 19, and her commitment to continuous training and safety.
We’re Grateful
We appreciate NRA Women for providing us with a platform to share our mission and values. Together, we strive to inspire and empower individuals to exercise their Second Amendment rights responsibly and proudly.
Excellent write-up, Laura! I love the way you approached the “girl boss” issue; I’ve never quite put it to words, but that defined why it rubs me the wrong way a smidge too. You helped me clarify what I’ve been thinking.
Good stuff!
AH! That’s so cool. Yes, that’s always bugged me. I’m so glad I could help put it into words. I chose my words carefully, too, as I never want to ruffle feathers and distract people emotionally as I present solid logic. Thanks for the support Melonie!! You rock
